BUSINESSES are being urged to show their support for public service workers by offering discounts and deals on a day dedicated to celebrating their hard work.

Brighton-based public sector and civil service membership club Boundless wants companies across the city to show their appreciation for workers in the public sector on Public Service Day on June 23.

The day was launched by the United Nations almost two decades ago, with Boundless working to put the region’s public service workers in the spotlight by supporting the campaign over the last four years.

Businesses in Brighton and Hove, as well as across Sussex, have been lining up to get involved.

Warner Hotels has offered a £30 per person booking discount and the Wildfowl and Wetland Trust site at Arundel is allowing all public sector workers to take a guest free of charge.

Boundless’s partners are also giving away prizes, including 20 complimentary adult admissions, wristbands for the Children’s Garden for Kew Gardens, and a £200 holiday voucher with Hoseasons.

Darren Milton at Boundless said: “This year, we’re asking the Brighton and Hove business community to join us in offering great deals, discounts and giveaways to public service workers.

“We know so many of our nurses, teachers, firefighters, police officers, carers and civil service workers go the extra mile without any thought of recognition or reward.

“They make a big difference to all our lives, often behind the scenes.

“Public service workers have had an extraordinarily tough time over the past couple of years and have gone beyond the call of duty.

“Three quarters volunteered or raised money during the pandemic at the same time as carrying out regular duties. We think this is a nice way for local businesses to show their support and recognition.”

Businesses looking to back the campaign can download a toolkit for Public Service Day from Boundless’s website.
